BZF 2014

Debut of "Thank You for Your Cooperation" at the Brooklyn Zine Fest this weekend.  TYFYC is a collaborative fanzine of the original 1987 version of RoboCop.  It features awe inspiring visuals, mind numbing storytelling, and a semi-toxic spray stenciled cover.  How is this relevant to DC Creepers?  Concept, cover, several stories, editing, and most importantly "Creep" portraits of the Boddicker Gang were all done by yours truly.  Can't make it to Brooklyn and want to get your mitts on one?  Get in touch.

Minor Alps

"It's like living in a war zone."

Sketches from and around a show I caught at the Black Cat back room last week.  Minor Alps is Matthew Caws and Juliana Hatfield and they are touring on their first album.  They were kind enough to hang around post show to sign autographs and chat with fans.  I'm sometimes hesitant to show my work to musicians, but I decided to this time and they were both pretty receptive.  Here are the pages.

An interesting show.  The new songs from "Get There" were solid and the acoustic style versions they did of each others songs had a different weight that worked for the intimate space.  For some reason I kept thinking they would do a cover of "80 Windows" by Nada Surf.  Maybe next tour.

Cartoonists Draw Blood in Montgomery County

Pics of the fine folks who donated blood (most of them did) to the Red Cross.  This event was put together by Carolyn Belefski of Curls and the DC Conspiracy.  A fine day for sketching and bloodshed.  Mwah ha ha.  Creepy enough for ya?

Surprisingly also went to RISD.  How about that!

This sketch came out great.  She really seemed to enjoy reading the zine too.

This guy LOVES baseball and HATES traffic.  Seems ok to me.

Took a zillion photos at the event and seemed pretty much fearless.

Wrote an article for the Washington Post about the event. 
Said of the drawing of her
"I kept looking at it the first day, and I think oddly enough, there's something you captured that almost feels like I'm looking at my own mood, reflected back at me - not even my public persona, but what was going on underneath that.  No one would know that but me..."  That was really amazing feedback on my work.  Meaningful.

Loves music and loved the zine.  I talked up Soul Makossa by Manu Dibango.

Magic Bullet Artisphere Creeps

These portraits are all from the Saturday artist in residence I did for the Magic Bullet show at the Artisphere.  Show is up till Nov. 2nd.  Good stuff.  Thanks to all the creeped for sitting and chatting with me.

This fella was the on site manager for the Artisphere and was really cool.  I was really happy with how the sketch turned out.

Bruce actually came in on the Thursday before and was extremely interesting.  Highly knowledgeable and uber friendly.

When I scanned these I clipped the bottom of some of the drawings.  This one lost it's cleavage; which takes away from the sultry noir expression.  'spose I could re-scan, but that seems like a lot of work.

This one also got clipped on the bottom.  Kate was drawing her comic at the same time.  A nice capture of art capturing art.

This couple from Petworth were really cool.  Mike suggests that if I moved to Petworth and had a longer commute, it would increase my "creep" opportunities.  Sound logic.

This young guy was there with his Dad who, forlorned, stated that his son did not "like" comics.  The son seems to like a copy of Mr. Squibly I had there so maybe he's just been reading all the wrong comics till now.

Yenifer wanted her quote bubble to be "What it is" an apparent inside joke that I kind of blew off.  She was funny.

This one of Xiomara was my favorite.  The colors really popped and i think i got a pretty quick an accurate gesture.  I liked her quote and she was just really enthusiastic the entire time.
