Magic Rona Thing

I have a new Mr. Squibly (my long running every-man character) comic that I'm excited to share, but do to Covid-19, the publication Magic Bullet #20, is indefinitely on hold.  This is a free paper so as an artist I'm not missing out on some sort of giant financial windfall.  Other artists are suffering way more than I am in this pandemic.  The thing about these comics I do for Magic Bullet, and other free or low cost publications, is that I do them out of love of the medium and not out of love of the mighty dollar.  My payment is people seeing and reading the work and for me that's enough.  As an artist I have always tried to make sure that my work is true to my vision, my vision is true to my heart, and that at the end of the day I will always be able to say that it fully represents me.  This comic is no different.  Enjoy a few bits of it.  Hopefully you will see the thing in it's entirety someday soon, in your hands, and on cheap newsprint as intended.  Look for it at Big Planet Comics or Atomic Books, whichever is closest to you.

The Comix - Space 710 - June 2016

Here are some pics of my work at the Space 710 gallery in Kefa Cafe in downtown Silver Spring.  The pieces are all original art that I've made for publication in DC based comics compilation Magic Bullet.  Also had some nice archival colorized prints made.  Because, you know, awesome.

I'm planning on posting up at Kefa in the afternoon (12-3?) on June 19th, just to work on some new comics for DC Zinefest and SPX.  Should you be nearby, drop on by, say hi.

Thanks to Lene and Abeba for hosting the show.  They run the arts space as a non profit focused venture and really care about how art can serve the community.  Especially emerging artists.  For me, it's an honor to show in the space.  I had the good fortune of being able to hang some of my former clients work there in 2011 and the honor to do a solo show there in 2014 of my recent paintings.  A great space and truly vital in Silver Spring.

Feral Faro

Here are a few character panels from my comic "Feral Faro".  These panels are part of my submission for the western themed issue of Magic Bullet (number nine to be precise) that should be hitting newsstands (DC area comic stores and other fine retailers) over the summer.  Drop me a line if you hand in getting your hands on one.  Cheers.

Magic Bullet Artisphere Creeps

These portraits are all from the Saturday artist in residence I did for the Magic Bullet show at the Artisphere.  Show is up till Nov. 2nd.  Good stuff.  Thanks to all the creeped for sitting and chatting with me.

This fella was the on site manager for the Artisphere and was really cool.  I was really happy with how the sketch turned out.

Bruce actually came in on the Thursday before and was extremely interesting.  Highly knowledgeable and uber friendly.

When I scanned these I clipped the bottom of some of the drawings.  This one lost it's cleavage; which takes away from the sultry noir expression.  'spose I could re-scan, but that seems like a lot of work.

This one also got clipped on the bottom.  Kate was drawing her comic at the same time.  A nice capture of art capturing art.

This couple from Petworth were really cool.  Mike suggests that if I moved to Petworth and had a longer commute, it would increase my "creep" opportunities.  Sound logic.

This young guy was there with his Dad who, forlorned, stated that his son did not "like" comics.  The son seems to like a copy of Mr. Squibly I had there so maybe he's just been reading all the wrong comics till now.

Yenifer wanted her quote bubble to be "What it is" an apparent inside joke that I kind of blew off.  She was funny.

This one of Xiomara was my favorite.  The colors really popped and i think i got a pretty quick an accurate gesture.  I liked her quote and she was just really enthusiastic the entire time.

Triple Threat

I have an original comics page at the Artisphere through November 3rd.  The "MEGA TURG" was originally published in DC Conspiracy's Magic Bullet #3.  If going all the way to Roslyn, VA just to see one page of art isn't enough to lure you in there is also the Warhol exhibit "Silver Clouds in the adjacent gallery.  Also I will be "in residence" on Thursday September 26th from 6:30pm-9:30pm and September 28th from 1pm-4pm.  I'll be working on pages for issues 8 and 9 of Magic Bullet.  Come on by and I will creep you out (sketch you for free).  Info at the link:

Lastly, I'm currently curator of the recently dubbed "Personal Visions Gallery" at the Ratner Museum in Bethesda.  The main space of the museum will feature art work by adults living with disabilities and many of these artists will be from the program I co-created, Studio In-Sight of Cornerstone Montgomery.  The current show "Outer Limits 2013" has one large creep (portrait) by me of one of the artists in the studio.  New shows every other month.  Plus tons of incredible sculpture by Phil Ratner.  Info below:

Batpocalypse Now

Here are those comic bits I promised.  Apparently I'm supposed to keep the whole page view under wraps till the publication passes at the end of the month.  Who knew?  On their own they may not make much sense, but as a whole I feel it came together nicely.

I just did a page for local DC free paper comics anthology Magic Bullet.  Issue number 5 on the street July 28th.  I'll add some teaser scans soon or something.
